Natasha Burbury is a contemporary figurative artist based in Bundjalung country, Byron Bay, Australia. Her practice stems from a deeply personal place, using her art as a cathartic form of self-exploration and therapy. Her works are infused with intimate questions about identity, rendered primarily through the female form intertwined with symbolic still life elements.
In her current collection, she has turned her focus to capturing the simple pleasures and commonplace beauty of everyday moments. She states, "I find it fascinating that during a time in my life when there was more pain and discord, I started to paint what I believed to be the uncomplicated or 'the simple pleasures in life'. It was my way of being able to cope with the weight of it all."
Working in acrylic on cotton canvas, Natasha constructs layered surfaces that incorporate elements of contemporary pop art through bold colours, varied line work, and patterning.
A graduate of the College of Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales in 2013, Burbury has exhibited her works both nationally and internationally. Her emotionally charged paintings offer a window into the depths of human experience through a uniquely vulnerable artistic voice.
